Let’s take a look at some of the latest MLB news, including injury updates from the St. Louis Cardinals and Colorado Rockies, plus a quick defensive play by a Toronto Blue Jays pitcher.

St. Louis Cardinals news: Adam Wainwright, Jack Flaherty dealing with issues

Two key members of the Cardinals rotation are already dealing with some aches and pains early in spring training. That includes Jack Flaherty, who had his Saturday start pushed back one day because of soreness in his lower half, per Cardinals manager Oli Marmol.

Additionally, Adam Wainwright struggled in his start on Thursday against the Astros, giving up five hits and three runs in 3.0 innings of work. Through two starts, Wainwright’s ERA now stands at 7.20.

Wainwright’s issues on Thursday could be a part of a pair of nagging issues that hampered the 41-year-old right-hander.

MLB news: Colorado Rockies Gold Glover could be lost for season

The news was not good for the Rockies on Thursday as second baseman Brendan Rodgers and reliever Lucas Gilbreath could both be lost for the season.

Rodgers, who won the Gold Glove at second base last season, suffered an injured shoulder earlier in the week trying to make a defensive play. That injury has now turned out to be a worst-case scenario in Denver.

Meanwhile, GIlbreath, who last pitched on August 26 and finished the season on the shelf thanks to a left elbow flexor strain, is reportedly likely heading for Tommy John surgery, another blow to the Colorado bullpen.

Toronto Blue Jays news: Alek Manoah makes a quick defensive gem

Manoah only pitched 1.2 innings in Toronto’s 2-2 tie against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday, but he was still on the mound long enough to record this quick-thinking defensive gem.

During his time on the mound (along with this play), Manoah gave up three hits, one run and one walk while striking out two.
