Who are the top 5 MLB players on last place teams?
By Sam Aucoin
#2 – Paul Goldschmidt
I think it is safe to say that nobody saw the St. Louis Cardinals being in last place in May. But who knows, they could move up by the time you read this article. Even though his team is not playing to its full potential, reigning National League MVP Paul Goldschmidt is at it again.
Slashing .302/.400/.517 with seven home runs and 23 runs batted in, Goldschmidt is proving why he deserves to be in the MVP race again. I am also optimistic that the Cardinals will be out of last place sooner rather than later, especially with the best corner-infield duo in all of baseball.
Drafted in the 49th round of the 2006 draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the 35-year-old spent his first eight seasons in Arizona. With the Diamondbacks, he made six All-Star appearances and won a Hank Aaron Award. Since coming to St. Louis in 2019, he has an All-Star appearance, another Hank Aaron Award, an NL MVP, a Gold Glove, and a Silver Slugger Award.
The Redbirds will be a team to watch soon and with the help of Goldy and Nolan Arenado, they might have an exciting push towards the playoffs all the way from fifth in the NL Central.
