The 2023 MLB trade deadline is fast approaching. Contenders and rebuilding teams must finalize their deals by Tuesday August 1 at 6 p.m. (Eastern) and some teams have already been extremely active.

The Texas Rangers have a high-scoring offense, but with the loss of Jacob deGrom, they turned to Max Scherzer to lead their rotation. To acquire the 40 year-old veteran, the Rangers parted with one of their top prospects Luisangel Acuna.

The Los Angeles Angels have decided to keep Shohei Ohtani and show him they are serious about building a team around him by making a bevy of trades. Thus far, the Angels have acquired Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, Eduardo Escobar and Mike Moustakas.

Miami has decided to push their chips in for a Wild Card spot. The Marlins have acquired David Robertson, Jorge Lopez and Jose Castillo to strengthen their bullpen.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been active, acquiring Amed Rosario, Kiké Hernandez, Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly.

The Chicago White Sox have been the store to shop at thus far. They have sent out Lynn, Kelly, Giolito, Lopez and Kendall Graveman. Other names to watch are Eloy Jiminez, Jake Burger and Andrew Benintendi.

While Atlanta has already acquired Pierce Johnson and Taylor Hearn for their bullpen, they likely are not done. Left field and starting pitching are still areas for the Braves to upgrade.

For any MLB trade deadline primer to be prime, you need to identify buyers and sellers.
