Derek Jeter will play final games at Fenway Park

Yes, everyone can calm down now. Just because Derek Jeter had the best possible send off at Yankee Stadium last night, going two for five and driving in three runs, doesn’t mean he won’t play in Boston this weekend.

It was one amazing night. The perfect send-off for the Yankee Captain, with his final RBI being a game winning walk-off single.

There was speculation that perhaps that was all the send-off that Jeter needed. His final game in pinstripes in front of his home crowd. Why would he want to play this weekend in Boston?

Afterall aren’t those the fans who have hated him for the past two decades? The ones who have reveled in any minute failure? Laughed at any expense of his that they could find? Granted, there haven’t been many. He is Derek Jeter.

Yet in another classic Jeter-move the long-time Yankee shortstop announced, Thursday night after his most shining moment, that he will in fact play at Boston’s Fenway Park against his team’s most hated rivals the Red Sox in front of their fans.

In fact he is doing it out of respect for the fans in Boston who have all paid exorbitant amounts for their tickets to see him play one last time.

Although techincally they could have seen him play all season for their “last time”‘ being that the Yankees and the Red Sox play 18 times during every regular season.

"“Out of respect to the Boston fans and the rivalry I will play in some capacity.” Jeter said in a post game interview on MLB Network."

Personally I think that is rather nice of him. Although he won’t be playing in the infield, likely just as the designated hitter which is understandable.

To be quite honest with you, I think this is probably my last game at shortstop. I want to remember that view I had right out there today – Derek Jeter

Last night’s game at Yankee Stadium and the send-off he recieved from the adoring crowd that was truly thanking him for 20 years of his life, his hard work, entertainment he provided and for five Yankees’ World Championship titles was one for the history books and Jeter deserves to remember his last game on the field as the Yankees shortstop like that.
