The other shoe has dropped and the bad news continues for the Mets.

Just after announcing they would likely be without infielder Daniel Murphy for the remainder of the season, New York has added star shortstop Jose Reyes to the disabled list with a strained hamstring.  The club has replaced the pair with Ruben Tejada and Mike Baxter.

Earlier today Mets’ general manager Sandy Alderson said that it’s likely Reyes will miss 2 to 3 weeks due to the injury.  A similar injury sidelined the 28 year old for 2 weeks earlier this season.

Reyes was removed from yesterday’s game against the Braves after experiencing stiffness in his hamstring.  He was lifted in the second inning and replaced at shortstop by Justin Turner.

As they did the first time Reyes was sidelined, the Mets will use Tejada at short.  In 52 games with the Mets this season the 21 year old hit .250 with 19 RBI’s while spending most of his time at second base.

Baxter is a 26 year old that was recently claimed off waivers by the Mets from the San Diego Padres.  So far in 26 games played in the minors this season, Baxter has an OPS of .795 with 6 extra base hits and 11 RBI’s.  He’s posted a career Minor League line of .279/.350/.424 while playing in the outfield as well as first base.
