Grady Sizemore Eyeing September Return

Grady Sizemore has resumed baseball related activities as the outfielder continues his rehab back to the Majors.  While there’s still no set timetable for his return, Sizemore is hoping to rejoin the Indians sometime in September.

After hitting the DL with more knee problems, Sizemore underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia he sustained earlier this season.  The knee was Cleveland’s main concern because it’s given Sizemore such problems in the past.  But the injury didn’t turn out to be all that serious, and the Tribe discovered they could get their center fielder back this season.

Sizemore is playing catch and hitting off a tee, along with running on an anti-gravity treadmill.

Originally designed by NASA, these treadmills are pretty amazing.  They allow those recovering from injury to get back into a running routine quicker by eliminating gravity levels.

What this did in the case of Sizemore was allow him to run yesterday at 80% of his bodyweight.  Instead of his knees and body having to support his 200 pound frame, it only had to deal with 160 pounds.  The machine has the ability to reduce a person’s body weight down to 20%, lowering the total in 1% increments.

Cleveland is anticipating Sizemore to return to a more normal workout experience over the next few days, progressing to what they term “land-based” running drills.

If the Indians need any help, I’m sure Grady’s Ladies could offer up a few more interesting workout scenarios.
