The Oakland Athletics’ new team president Dave Kaval has been making a concerted effort to help revive what has been, in recent years, a decidedly unhappy fan base.

Since taking his new office in late 2016, Kaval has been dedicated to listening and communicating with all Oakland Athletics‘ fans, happy or not so much.

He began his tenure as president of the A’s by opening up his office every Tuesday to speak with any fans who wanted to give their advice on everything from a new stadium site to the food at the ballpark.

As it turns out, one of the common threads that continued to come up was the continued elevation of the price of beer at the Oakland Coliseum.

There were many other ideas as well including but not limited to moving A’s Fan Fest to Jack London Square (check!), finding a new stadium site (he’s already narrowed it down to four potential sites) and expanding the food choices at the current stadium (check!), among other suggestions.

"“A lot of people had mentioned it’s getting so expensive to come here with a family so we wanted it to go across the board [in regards to the] reduction in our beer prices,” Kaval said in the video."

In a video posted by the A’s on Facebook as well as in emails to season ticket holders, Kaval relayed to fans that in 2017 that out of the 91 beers sold at the Coliseum, the 77 that they have on tap of will cost no more than $10 for 20 ounces.

The ten dollar beers will include premium beers and the cost for domestic beers will be just $8.

Last season at the A’s ballpark,12 ounces of beer cost 43 cents an ounce.

This season it will cost three cents less per ounce, according to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle.

The Oakland Coliseum now offers the cheapest beer of any Bay Area stadium, including the San Francisco Giants, the Golden State Warriors and the San Jose Sharks.

Kaval not only moved Fan Fest to Jack London Square, where it was a roaring success, he’s also introduced new food items around the entire stadium and said that between eight and 16 of Oakland’s best food trucks will be available at every game.

He’s even introducing specialty A’s branded wines, made exclusively for A’s fans and that will only be sold at the Coliseum.

The names of the wines are even specific to the club: The Swingin’ A’s Chardonnay and Bill King Holy Toledo Reserve Cabernet.

On top of having wine made just for A’s fans and having the lowest beer prices in the entire San Francisco Bay Area, Kaval has also renamed the Coliseum’s pub, which has had a number of names over the years, not one of which was very memorable, to The Shibe Park Tavern.

If you are unfamiliar with Shibe Park, it was the name of the Athletics’ very first stadium back in Philadelphia, making it an ode to the teams rich and long history.

As team president, Dave Kaval is already making more and more A’s fans smile and already excited for Opening Day, much more so than in recent years.
