St. Louis Cardinals coaching changes for 2018
The St. Louis Cardinals coaching changes have completed their staff for 2018.
The St. Louis Cardinals have cleaned house with their coaching staff during the early stages of the off-season. With the recent additions of Willie McGee and Mike Schildt, the Cardinals were not done filling their remaining vacant coaching positions.
The St. Louis Cardinals filled the vacancy that was their pitching coach position, hiring Mike Maddux to fill in that gaping hole. That also means the promotion of AAA Memphis pitching coach Bryan Eversgerd is getting a call to the big leagues who will take over as bullpen pitching coach.
Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak displayed his pleasure with the two St. Louis Cardinals coaching changes, moves that went down today:
"“We are very excited to welcome Mike to the Cardinals organization. We also look forward to giving Bryan Eversgerd a well-deserved opportunity on our Major League staff.”"

Maddux, had the same position for the Texas Rangers (2009-2015) and Washington Nationals (2016-17), an intricate piece of six postseason teams. There is no coincidence with that last name, where Maddux is the brother of Hall of Fame pitcher (Greg) Maddux.
Eversgerd has been within the Cardinals organization for 15 years, the past five with the Memphis Redbirds, a well-deserved promotion and one that will only help the Cardinals in 2018 and beyond.
Memphis had a phenomenal season, easily winning the Pacific Coast League, with a record of 91-50. Look at what he’s done with the youngsters who are now in St. Louis — Luke Weaver, and Carlos Martinez to name a few.

Maddux and Eversgerd will serve as an excellent 1-2 punch, with an array of young pitchers who need the proper instruction to take the next step in their MLB careers. The St. Louis Cardinals coaching changes how that they are not messing around so far in the off-season, making moves that will greatly benefit them, possibly knocking the Chicago Cubs off of their throne in 2018.
