MLB Projections: Top 10 Shortstops for the 2020 Season

#9 – Bo Bichette, Toronto Blue Jays

Bo Bichette is one of three sons of ex-major leaguers on the Toronto Blue Jays, and he might be the best of the bunch. In just 46 games last season, Bichette impressed with a slash line of .311 / .358 / .571. He smacked 11 HR in that time span.

Defensively, among shortstops with a minimum 350 innings at the position, Bichette ranks 26th in FanGraphs’ defensive rating. He did post a 3 DRS which ranks him 14 out 30 shortstops.

It’s clear that Bichette still has some room to grow, especially defensively. What’s clear, however, is that the Blue Jays’ future is in good hands with the son of Dante.

#8 – Fernando Tatis Jr., San Diego Padres

More from MLB News

In keeping with the trend of sons of former major leaguers, here we have Fernando Tatis Jr., one of the most promising players in MLB. Last season, Tatis experienced an injury-rattled year. Because of that, he was limited to just 84 games.

In that time, however, Tatis slashed .317 / .379 / .590, smacking 22 HR along the way. He placed 3rd in the NL Rookie of the Year voting, behind Pete Alonso and Mike Soroka.

#7 – Trevor Story, Colorado Rockies

Trevor Story burst through the seems in 2016, when in 97 games he hit 27 HR and 72 RBI. After a sophomore slump in 2017, Story has only gotten better.

Last season, Story had his best offensive season yet, slashing .294 / .363 / .554. He posted a career-high .917 OPS after showing great patience at the plate.

Defensively, Story is one of the elite shortstops in the game. In fact, in 2019 Story led all shortstops with a minimum 1000 innings at the position with a 17 DRS. His defensive rating on FanGraphs places him 3rd in the position behind Paul DeJong and Javier Baez.
