Boston Red Sox second pick in round 3 of the MLB draft: Infielder, Blaze Jordan

Now the Sox didn’t have a pick in the second round, so they jump 72 picks later in the draft and select Blaze Jordan, who was actually one of the more well-known prospects among baseball fans in this draft. This is mostly due to his viral home run videos. He won the high school Home Run Derby at the All-Star Game in Cleveland last year hitting some balls past 500 feet.

Jordan was the #1 ranked prospect in the 2021 class, but he re-classed to join this year’s draft.  A prospect with extreme power is exactly what Boston is getting with this pick. While Yorke’s numbers from Perfect Game were impressive, Blaze Jordan’s are unbelievable.

Jordan’s Perfect Game profile shows he is in the 99th percentile of all hitting categories of Exit Velocity, Max Barrel Speed, Impact Momentum, and Max Acceleration.

Taking Yorke in the first round and signing him for a smaller bonus than a more highly ranked player was very likely a big part of allowing the Red Sox to draft the 42nd ranked player in the MLB.com rankings, Blaze Jordan, at pick 89.
