After all the excitement surrounding the game, MLB’s Field of Dreams is no more.
What does the 2020 shortened MLB season slate have going for it now? With the news of the Field of Dreams game being canceled, what other novel idea do we have to look forward to?
When the All-Star Game was canceled this year, I didn’t bat an eye. The hoopla surrounding the game, with the Celebrity Softball matchup and Home Run Derby bore me.
When the designated hitter was implemented for the National League, extra innings games would begin with a runner on second base, and doubleheaders were approved to be seven innings each, I figured these were the prices of doing business in a global pandemic.
However, when it was announced the Field of Dreams game was canceled, I have found myself to be deeply saddened.
Cardinals-White Sox game at Field of Dreams next Thursday in Dyersville, Iowa cancelled, sources tell The Athletic. Reasoning not believed to be tied to additional positive tests on Cardinals. More a logistical problem.

Logistical problem? Hasn’t the league been planning this game for over a year now? Even when the issue arose the New York Yankees would be unable to play in the game, a suitable replacement was found.

Logistical in what regard? If it doesn’t have anything to do with the recent surge on cases in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, how are the logistics any different than before the increased number of cases?
Logistical because of travel? Logistical because the field won’t be ready?
The game has been on for almost a year, so I can’t imagine the makeshift stadium will not be ready. Move these two teams out and move two more teams in. Who is Milwaukee playing that day? They can just move a little south. No need to issue refunds on tickets, no fans are allowed anyways.
In a sixty game season there is not much for fans to hang their hats on. With the increase in playoff teams, even the postseason has been diluted down. Watching teams play a baseball game with a cornfield backdrop, invoking memories of Shoeless Joe Jackson tracking down balls with a hand-sized glove, was about all I had this season.
Now, nothing. What a joke this season has become.
